Background
Adoption Community of New England, Inc. is celebrating its 40th anniversary during 2007. Since its founding in 1967, it has grown from a small group of adoptive families to a membership of 1,700 families and agencies/organizations. The original goal of education and support for adoptive families has broadened to include all those touched by adoption.
Early in its history, what was then called Open Door Society of Massachusetts, Inc., started sponsoring the Annual New England Adoption Conference. It has grown to be the largest, single-day conference of its type with people coming from as far away as Canada, Maryland and California. The 34th annual conference, held on April 28, 2007, continued in the tradition with over 100 workshops.
