Stress Management during the Adoption Journey

Sponsored by Adoption Community of New England, Inc.

Every one touched by adoption lives with change. Did you know that all change is stressful, even when it's "good" change? Do you wonder why you feel stressed when everyone thinks you should be happy? Are you feeling challenged by the adoption journey and wondering how you are going to manage?

This workshop recognizes that the adoption journey can be stressful for everyone involved: birth parents, foster parents, adoptive families, children and adoption workers. When we view adoption with this "change=stress" lens, we can develop the tools and strategies for managing the stressful aspects of the adoption journey in productive and affirming ways.

We will identify physical, psychological and behavioral consequences of unmanaged stress; identify the stressors in adoption and understand our individual thresholds for levels of stress; and learn "quick fixes" and long-term strategies for managing stress. You'll come away from this workshop feeling relaxed and ready to manage the stressors that come your way!
