Understanding Your Child's Development

What to Expect When You Meet Your Child

Children who are adopted from another country or from an environment significantly different from their new homes often reach their developmental potential by following their own unique and unpredictable paths. This workshop is designed for pre-adoptive families of children under 5 years of age, to help prepare them to meet the physical, developmental and emotional needs of the newly arrived adopted child, as well as when to seek support.

Topics include:

  • Language acquisition
  • Attentional Issues
  • Feeding
  • Progression
  • Motor development
  • Social interactions
  • Attachment
  • Play and exploration

Presenter: Lisa Mandelblatt, OTR/L, MPH has over six years of experience as a pediatric occupational therapist. She specializes in the development of premature infants and children, internationally adopted children, and children with a wide range of developmental delays and diagnoses.
